Dear Parents,

Wow, the school year sped by so quickly! I enjoyed every day with your precious children.

I know children can be taxing at times for you as parents, but in school, I rarely had to stop for any disruption in class.

Thank you for sending me such beautiful children who were ready to learn each and every day!

I reminded the children to continue practicing their math facts (which are found in their plastic
folders) and to read, read and read some more.

I recently presented an all-school religion lesson on Our Lady of Good Help. The children came up to me afterwards and said they appreciated hearing the story of how Mary appeared to Adele Brise in Wisconsin in the year 1856.  Mary's message to Adele still rings clear for us today.

Dear Parents,

Thank you for the lovely, hummingbird, bird feeder. My husband and I love to watch birds, so this will be perfect to put in our yard near our front window. I can't wait to see our first hummingbirds.

The children and I had a fun time at the MN Science Museum. A picture says a thousand words.

I hope your Easter holiday was lovely. The weather certainly was beautiful!

Dear Parents,

The children and I have been enjoying our "visit" to China. The children have learned lots of new facts about China. In art class, they made examples of Chinese dragons which are on display in the hallway. Today, they will be engaged in a Readers Theater script entitled, The Lion Dancer. On Monday, the children will re-enact a Chinese New Year Parade complete with a Lion Dancer and a good luck dragon as they visit each classroom.

While studying about China, I did take the time to share with my students that China is not allowed to practice freely their religious beliefs. We discussed what that would be like to go to church and find the doors were locked and the priest was gone. I did share with them that there still are Christians in China, but they must keep this private.

At school we are celebrating the Olympics. Out in the hall we are keeping track of a few countries and their gold medals. Today, I told my students that they are all winners and I gave them all a "gold medal"!! I was made out of a fruit roll-up and a vanilla cookie.

 Dominic is making a ring of children from around the world.

 The children are wearing masks to represent the animals that the St. Peter's school children bought for Heifer International.

 The children love to play Pits and Alleys in the gym.

Dear Parents,

The children are engaged in several different activities throughout the day, but they all have a central theme. The theme for the past couple weeks has been Life in Arctic Regions. We have been able to study the polar regions and the unique animals that live there. Our new word in science class is adaptations. The white fur of the animals gave a perfect example of this. Our cold weather makes it easy to imagine frigid arctic temperatures!

Also, we have begun our "World Tour" and are currently visiting Russia, which borders the Arctic region. While in Russia, the children have become acquainted with the rich culture of the area. They read stories about both country life and city life. They particularly enjoyed seeing all the buildings with the colorful onion domes.

In math class, the children are adding three digit numbers with regrouping, solving word problems and practicing telling elapsed time.

I was delighted to be sent a beautiful picture of Our Lady of the Arctic Snows from the Archbishop of Alaska. I shared this picture with the children and they were all amazed. Mary is dressed like a lovely Eskimo woman and she is holding her son, Jesus.

This Saturday at 10:30 the children will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I feel the children have a good understanding of the Ten Commandments and the loving forgiveness of Jesus.


All the cold weather has kept the children inside for recess. They love to play with the puppet theater.  I am including some pictures from their last puppet performance.

Dear Parents,

I wanted to send you a few snapshots from the play, Our Lady of Guadalupe. The children were so excited to perform a real play on the stage for an audience.

This coming Friday, December 20, is Grandparent's Day. The children may go home after the program with their grandparents if you send a permission slip. If your child is staying until the end of the day, please send a cold lunch, as hot lunch will not be served.

Dear Parents,

I want to thank all of you for the remembering my birthday in such a special way! The children greeted me in the morning with a spontaneous Happy Birthday song, which was so dear to me. Later in the morning, I was greeted with a lovely birthday card, a lavender scented warming shawl and a gift certificate to Macy’s. We also shared wonderful Rice Krispy Bars as well. May God bless you for all your kind ways!

The past couple of weeks we have focused our attention on the preparation of a new play, which will be presented on stage for the whole student body and interested parents and friends. The play is about the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The children memorized their lines and are anxious to put the show on the road!

It will be presented on December 5, at 1:30.

In math class we are covering geometric shapes with new vocabulary.

Memorization of math facts is coming along just fine. We are also reviewing telling time and measurement with inches.

I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. The children memorized a verse from the Bible. Perhaps they could recite it for your prayer on Thanksgiving Day.
